PhD Project: High resolution regional modelling and connectivity around Kaikoura, NZ
Supervisors: Dr Ata Suanda (U. Otago) and Dr Joao Souza (MetOcean Solutions | MetService)
Institute: University of Otago
About Phellipe: After a BSc in Oceanography at the Federal University of Paraná, Phellipe pursued an MSc in Oceanography from the State University of Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), researching the effects of upwelling favourable wind relaxation off Rio de Janeiro coastal ocean. His work experience includes a stint in the Brazilian Navy as an undergraduate research trainee and over the last three years he has been responsible for numerical modelling of coastal ocean processes at MetOcean Solutions.
PhD Project: Connectivity of Greenshell mussels from national to regional scales - Microchemistry
Supervisors: Prof. Andrew Jeffs (U. Auckland) and A. Prof. Carolyn Lundquist (NIWA)
Institute: University of Auckland
Wenjie Wu achieved his Masters degree in Marine Science at the University of Auckland researching the role of physical structure in the attachment of juvenile green-lipped mussels (Perna canaliculus). He made artificial seaweed structures to examine how larval and juvenile mussels attached to these structures. His Bachelor in Science (Biological Science - Marine Biology Direction) degree was obtained from one of the top marine universities in China, Ocean University of China. During his undergraduate he was also involved studies of the endocrine regulation of zebrafish (Danio rerio) and genetic modification of Escherichia coli.
