Andre Lobato

MetOcean Solutions, Oceanographer

Andre has a BSc in Oceanography specialising in software development, Python and Linux systems and extensive experience with environmental data and visualisation techniques. He joined MetOcean Solutions after a stint at the Brazilian Navy, where he led a team building their ocean modelling computing and data storage infrastructure.

His roles at MetOcean Solutions include the development and maintenance of the operational forecast system, and the design of user interfaces for software development projects such as MetOceanTrack and SurfZoneView.

Andre’s work in the Moana Project is to develop the next generation of the MetOceanTrack application which is a user-interface to perform on-demand Lagrangian particle tracking modelling simulations that can be used as a scientific tool for realizing experiments for the ocean connectivity research projects on top of the newly generated MOANA data-sets. Andre will also help the modelling team to operationalize the New Zealand Hydrodynamical Forecast modelling with data-assimilation using ROMS model and integration with ocean observations data.
