Dr Haki Tuaupiki

Dr Haki Tuaupiki is a Pūkenga Matua at Te Pua Wānanga ki te Ao - Faculty of Māori and Indigenous Studies at the University of Waikato.

Haki's research has a strong focus on traditional navigation in te reo Māori which sees him drawing on ancestral knowledge in areas such as astronomy and maritime studies.

Haki is also the recipient of the 2020 Fullbright-Ngā Pae o Māramatanga Scholar Award, seeing him conduct research at the University of Hawai’I at Hilo and the Imiloa Astronomy Center about the record of traditional Māori and Hawai’ian navigation and voyaging embedded in oral arts and literature.
