Associate Professor of Māori and Indigenous Studies at Waikato University, and Director of Te Kotahi Research Institute, Māui is an interdisciplinary researcher with interests in Māori research and Science innovation, focusing on the application of mātauranga Māori in science.

Māui’s pukengatanga extends across a variety of contemporary contexts, with interests in the environment, innovation, new technologies and health, contributing to his advocacy for Māori engagement in the research sector.

Leading the He Papa Moana component of the Moana Project, Māui will provide guidance and knowledge in use of mātauranga Māori as well as addressing issues of Māori Data Sovereignty.
