Octavius Jones
Victoria University of Wellington - Te Herenga Waka, PhD student
Octavius has over 4 years of international experience in Africa and each time he has travelled to a new country he learns a little bit more about how to effectively run sustainable programs and to do so with the involvement of the communities he works with.
Octavius undergrad studies in African Languages and Literature, as well as his science and public health background, are vital in his desire to address global issues we all face. He completed his thesis in the Ethnic Studies Master’s degree program at Colorado State University, which focused on community-based conservation projects in Africa.
He came to New Zealand on a Fulbright Fellowship to do research at Victoria University of Wellington and started his PhD program in March 2020. Octavius would like to continue his work in marine ecosystem conservation, arts-based methods, and cultural studies across the globe, with an emphasis on working with Indigenous populations and marginalized groups.
