Phellipe Couto

University of Otago, PhD student
MetOcean Solutions, Oceanographer

Phellipe’s PhD in the Moana Project is looking at high resolution regional modelling and connectivity around Kaikoura, NZ to better understand how deep ocean and coastal scale hydrodynamics interact so that material that is transported, particularly pāua can be assessed in this environment.

After a BSc in Oceanography at the Federal University of Paraná, Phellipe pursued an MSc in Oceanography from the State University of Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), researching the effects of upwelling favourable wind relaxation off Rio de Janeiro coastal ocean. His work experience includes a stint in the Brazilian Navy as an undergraduate research trainee and over the last three years he has been responsible for numerical modelling of coastal ocean processes at MetOcean Solutions.
